The Maryland Network for Injured Equestrians

was established in 2005 by the family and friends of Peggy Ingles after Peggy suffered a spinal cord injury in 2004 while training a horse. (Read her story HERE)

Any resident of Maryland that sustains a Traumatic Brain Injury or Spinal Cord Injury in a horse-related accident is eligible to apply for financial assistance for medical, equipment, therapeutic, care and other expenses.

As a non-profit organization fully funded by private donations, MNIE relies on an annual fundraiser as its main income source. The generosity of the horse community has aided our beneficiaries in improving their quality of life in many ways.

KIM MEIER

In recent weeks, the MNIE Board of Directors has released funds to be used for emergency and rehabilitation care-related expenses for Kim Meier, an international horsewoman from Chestertown, Maryland. She was spinal-cord-injured in a fall from her horse January 16th in Florida where she was eventing and coaching some Maryland students. She is now a quadriplegic and is being air-ambulanced to a specialized rehab hospital in New Jersey. Her spirits and outlook are good. MNIE is proud to be of significant help at this difficult and costly time. Contributions to MNIE are encouraged and can be sent to Box 296, Jarrettsville, MD 21084.

How We Help

There are many, many ways that funding from MNIE can be utilized. The costs associated with the long-term care and rehabilitation of a spinal cord or brain injury patient can be astronomical. We support the importance of various forms of physical therapy, equipment, respite care for family caregivers and medical costs, just to name a few.
