Summer, 2008 Updates

Peggy Ingles has made fantastic progress in the almost
4 years since her injury occurred. Ongoing physical therapy is her main focus, and MNIE has contributed toward the purchase of a standing frame and an FES (Functional Electrical Stimulation) bike for exercise and increased function. Her home-based therapy program is conducted under the supervision of Kennedy Kreiger Institute.
In April of 2007, Peggy was able to ride her dear Arabian gelding, Sohn, for the first time since her injury. His cautious walking with her aboard was amazing! Sadly he passed away a few months later, at age 25.

At this same time, Peggy began walking with the use of a walker and assistance with advancing her left leg. Her strength increased to where she was able to walk over 300 feet before resting! (See video here)

Peggy also had the opportunity last summer to ride
Sohn’s half brother, Dolche, who was bred to be her next show horse, but was too young before her injury. His gentleness was amazing given his young age! She hopes to ride him more this year.

Kim Meier

Kim has been busy too! She is living at her farm in Chestertown and even recently brought her homebred horse Merle back there to live! She is also doing her therapy through KKI, and has an FES bike to use that MNIE helped her purchase in addition to some adaptations to her home and an equipped van for transportation.

Kim also managed to ride a horse again (we all know how important THAT is!) and has been doing some judging and teaching as well.

Over the winter, Kim and her daughter Kelly made the trip to USEA’s convention in Colorado, where Kim was awarded the IRONMASTER TROPHY for her contributions to the sport of eventing.
